Flex Shaft Dampers

Application and Design

The Flexible Shaft System features the Young Regulator 1200 Worm Gear Regulator. The flexible steel shaft transmits rotary motion from the ceiling line to the worm gear, which operates the damper.

The steel shaft is made of longitudinal steel wires that have been wound and counter-wound with yet more wires. The ends are then welded to bond them together. This creates a high tensile strength shaft that holds its form while being twisted and has the ability to bend around obstructions. The flexibile shaft makes for a much easier installation than assemblies using solid rod.

All Flex-Shaft Dampers come from the factory fully assembled and ready to be installed.

The Young 1200 self-locking right angle worm gear regulator installed at the factory, is used when an operating shaft must be carried down at a right angle to the damper shaft.

It may be used with a variety of Young Regulator's Ceiling Terminations including: 301, 315, 896.

The Radial Damper is yet another flex-shaft solution. The blades revolve to open or block airflow.

Flex Shaft Dampers are the same Commercial Quality units that you have come to expect from Young Regulator. Heavy gauge steel, high-quality bushings and precise construction are the hallmarks of all YR products. They are available in either round or rectangular configurations as well as in custom sizes.

Face operated flex shaft dampers are also available. The 821 is the same high-quality Opposed Blade Damper but the shaft is connected to the operating nut. The shaft can then run inside the ductwork down to a plenum bracket termination. Control the damper with a philips head screwdriver.
